Description
Extremely Rare! We’ve all seen Droste’s Cocoa tins but check out this adorable wooden shoe beryl pipe! These are incredibly hard to find! It’s also got to be the earliest Droste’s piece we’ve ever seen and is circa 1880.The company was founded in 1863 by Gerardus Johannes Droste.
The pipe is 4" from bowl to stem and the bowl, which is an exact replica of a wooden shoe (the piece de resistance) is 2-1/2 x 1-1/8" and 1" deep! The beryl wood is absolutely beautiful – very ornate with the words "DROSTE’S COCOA" in gold leaf lettering! Underneath the bowl it says "Made in France" .
To top it off, it’s in near PRISTINE condition with just a light loss of paint to the lettering. It’s one thing to find a piece as rare as this but when it also happens to be in this kind of incredible condition it’s a home run! Amazing being it's well over 100 years old!
A great crossover for both collectors of ANTIQUE ADVERTISING and PIPES!
I have not cleaned this item aside from a light dustoff. Light soiling, dust, old age toning, dents, paint loss and rust could be present along with other minor wear consistent with age. Please view all the photos as the are intended to be part of the description and ask any questions you may have prior to bidding. I’m always willing to take additional photos or answered detailed questions.
**Over the next several months we will be listing many items fresh from a local estate. Most will be run as auctions, so stay tuned for Sunday new listings. If you are interested in an item bid early as people often forget and miss out on items. I will not end listings early for any reason so please do not ask. The volume of items is too many to list but overall the areas covered are vintage toys, banks, games, advertising related items, tins, dolls and other collectibles.***
