Description
This is one half of a tin chromolithograph display table base. It was used by the Walter Baker Chocolate Company of Dorchester, Massachusetts to display the company's chocolate and cocoa powder products in stores and pharmacies. There were originally two halfs that connected to a flat base on the bottom with a round gold tabletop attached at the top. This piece is made of tin and features "La Belle Chocolatiere" carrying a tray of hot cocoa and glass of water. This image was and is still used by Baker's Chocolate as part of their trademark. It is mounted on the original 2" by 2" would support that would have attached to the floor base. The colors are very good. There are areas that have small scratches, some color loss and dirt (see photos). The back has two small rust spots on the paint surface but do not go through to the other side. It measures 22" tall including the wood support and approximately 12.5" across the widest point. This is a wonderful piece of late 19th century advertising. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
Thank you!
